Role Requirements

Role Requirement 1
Leadership of AI Initiatives

 
  • Champion the identification, prioritisation, and delivery of high-impact AI use cases across the organisation.
  • Lead the development of an AI roadmap aligned with organisational goals, data / technology strategies, and ethical standards.
  • Establish governance structures for AI experimentation, including review boards and risk assessments.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and operational stakeholders to ensure clarity, buy-in, and shared ownership.
  • Communicate AI capabilities and limitations clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Lead internal engagement efforts including show-and-tell sessions, training, and policy briefings
  • Identify, trial and select appropriate and secure AI tools and software

Role Requirement 2
AI Use Case Discovery and Evaluation

 
  • Develop and document a work programme of potential AI use cases, proposals on investigation mechanisms and associated resource needs for Governance sign-off
  • Manage AI discovery sprints with multi-disciplinary teams across ICT, D&A, and Operations.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops to uncover operational pain points and opportunities for AI intervention.
  • Evaluate use cases based on feasibility, data availability, ethical implications, and expected value.
  • Prepare structured test datasets using historical documentation and process data (e.g. BRS, FRS, appraisal records).
  • Design, run and evaluate proof-of-concept AI models and tools (e.g. generative AI, classification, NLP).
  • Document findings, develop recommendations for actions and develop materials for Governance structures to support decision-making on scale-up readiness.
  • Define success metrics and KPIs for each AI initiative, ensuring alignment with business outcomes.

Role Requirement 3
Cross-functional Coordination and Engagement

 
  • Facilitate engagement with operational Subject Matter Experts to understand core business processes and constraints.
  • Lead regular workshops and show-and-tell sessions to share findings and build understanding of AI potential.
  • Lead and coordinate short, intensive sprints to trial and test the applicability of AI solutions to real world business problems
  • Contribute to the development of organisation-wide AI policies, training and governance standards.
  • Develop monitoring, maintenance and oversight procedures deployed AI agents
  • With strategic vision, future proof delivered solutions to ensure business continuity and possible simplification and automation of deployed products.
  • Bring a strategic perspective to ensure solutions are resilient, adaptable, and future-ready, supporting both business continuity and opportunities for automation and simplification.

Role Requirement 4
Ethical and Compliant AI Use

 
  • Ensure alignment of all activities with Pobal’s Generative AI Policy, DPER AI Guidelines and the EU AI Act.
  • Work with DPO and Cybersecurity & Governance manager to define appropriate safeguards, audit trails and data privacy controls in pilot initiatives.
  • Advocate for responsible, explainable and human-in-the-loop AI models.
  • Collaborate with ICT and data teams to ensure infrastructure and data governance compliance.

Required Experience
 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a digital, data, analytics, product or systems delivery role in a public sector or mission-driven organisation.
  • Proven ability to manage short-cycle pilots or proof-of-concepts, ideally involving new technologies or emerging processes.
  • Strong understanding of business process analysis, systems design, or digital transformation principles.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: Microsoft Azure, Copilot, Python, Jupyter, Power Automate, OpenAI APIs or similar.
  • Effective communicator with strong documentation and facilitation skills.

Qualifications
 
  • Relevant Third Level qualification (e.g., Degree) equivalent is essential

Desirable Skills & Knowledge
 
  • Experience of using generative AI for real world business solutions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in prompt engineering, including crafting and refining prompts to improve generative AI outputs and model interactions.
  • Understanding of AI agents and their applications
  • Understanding of AI security considerations
  • Strong experience with machine learning model development and deployment
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate AI
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with a proven track record of identifying root causes and delivering simple, logical solutions to complex problems.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of information security and data protection
