We are currently recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist âDiabetes for a hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Contract Type: Permanent Part-Time
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing care for patients with diabetes across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized diabetes care plans.
- Educate patients and families on diabetes self-management, including insulin administration, blood glucose monitoring, diet, exercise, and medication adherence.
- Initiate and adjust diabetes treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Monitor patients for diabetes-related complications and coordinate timely interventions.
- Support the management of patients using insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and other diabetes technologies.
- Provide clinical advice and support to nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals on diabetes management.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, case reviews, and discharge planning.
- Develop and deliver diabetes education programs for healthcare staff.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with professional and legal standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects.
Requirements
- Registered General Nurse with an active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 5 years post-registration nursing experience, including significant experience in diabetes or endocrinology nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a specialist diabetes role (desirable or essential depending on employer).
- Postgraduate qualification in Diabetes Nursing or a related specialty (Level 8/9) or willingness to undertake one.
- Clinical expertise in the assessment and management of Type 1, Type 2, gestational diabetes, and diabetes-related complications.
- Knowledge of insulin therapies, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and diabetes technologies.
- Excellent clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
