Role summary

The NCH is seeking suitable applications from candidates for the role of Stage Hand. Reporting to the Stage Manager and Deputy Stage Manager, and liaising with Stage, House, Sound and Lighting teams the successful candidate will assist with stage and room set-ups and breakdowns and be on standby during events to assist and support as required.

Key responsibilities

·        Assist with stage set-ups and breakdowns including setting up platforms and equipment, stage extensions and seat removal as required

·        Assist with load–ins/outs

·        Check specifications for that day’s events and ensure that all equipment is ready for use

·        Assist with room set-ups/breakdowns for all corporate events and liaise with event organisers on the day. Ensure that rooms are laid out in accordance with event specifications, contain all the necessary equipment and are tidy, clean and free of unnecessary furniture

·        Remain on standby during events to assist and support as required

·        Help move pianos on and off stage as required, a piano cover should be used at all times

·        Ensure that stage area, platforms and piano platform for John Field Room use are cleaned prior to each event

·        Ensure that conductor’s podium and pianos (when in use) are polished

·        Be vigilant in maintaining a security presence in the anteroom and backstage area of the hall

·        Assist in keeping the outside/library stores tidy and in order

·        The uniform provided by the company must be worn at all times while at work

·        When working on stage and with heavy equipment personal protective clothing provided by the company must be worn at all times

·        Follow instructions from the Stage and House Management teams concerning operations within the Hall

The Person

The essential skills required for this position include:

·        Be flexible regarding hours of work and availability. The role involves a liability for shift work over a seven-day week

·        Demonstrate good interpersonal, communication and listening skills to maintain effective communication and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, management and external agents

·        Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a calm and measured way

·        Creative problem-solving ability, good housekeeping skills and strong attention to detail

·        Have the physical ability to endure frequent standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling and lifting

·        Have excellent hearing and manual dexterity

·        Portray the staff values of respect, integrity, collaboration and

The following skills are desirable:

·        Good understanding of stage set-ups for various concert types including, but not limited to, classical, orchestral, semi-staged opera, rock/pop, traditional set-ups

·        Experience of staging live events and of backstage event procedures

·        Technical skills with stage lighting, sound and audio-visual skills an advantage

·        Working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and procedures

·        Good computer skills

·        An ability to communicate at a basic level in the Irish language would be an advantage

General

The role is offered as a casual, part-time position with an hourly rate of pay of €17.06.

Hours of attendance will be variable, with no guarantee that hours will be offered to you on a weekly basis. Normal working hours can fall between 09:00 – 23:00 Monday to Sunday.
